Our Story

The South West Italian Australian Association (SWIAA) Village was founded in 1992 by a group of volunteers from the Italian community who had a vision and commitment to providing care to the local elderly community. They soon realised that in the South West region of Sydney, there was no facility to look after the elderly of Italian background.


SWIAA Retirement Village was established in 2003, offering 41 modern two-bedroom independent living villas, reminiscent of the Tuscan countryside.


SWIAA Gardens was officially opened in 2005 with 53 low-care accommodation, followed by an additional offering of 60 aged care beds in 2013. Our 113-bed accommodation also includes 22 dementia-specific care places.

SWIAA Limited (T/A SWIAA Villages) is a not-for-profit organisation and is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).

Our Priorities

Since our founding, our core purpose has not changed – Residents are our priority. We have prided ourselves in providing quality care to the senior community in a safe and welcoming environment and bringing communities together. In May 2021, we announced our renewed commitment to providing quality care by redefining our Mission, Vision and Values. It is to ensure our priorities reflect our evolved structure, long term strategy and way of working with the residents, their families, staff and the community in which we operate.
